Why I’m Supporting Cats Protection 💜

Cats Protection has always been close to my heart. I currently volunteer at one of their centres and in one of their charity shops, and I’ve seen first-hand the compassion, dedication, and tireless effort that goes into helping cats get the care they need and the second chances they deserve.

Whether it’s supporting nervous strays, providing vital medical treatment, or helping cats find the perfect forever home, the work they do is truly inspiring.

By featuring Cats Protection on my website, I hope to raise even more awareness about the incredible impact they make across the UK. I want to help promote some of the lovely cats looking for homes, encourage donations, and inspire others to get involved - whether by adopting, fostering, volunteering, or simply spreading the word.

About Cat’s Protection

Cat’s Protection has grown to be the UK’s leading cat charity, helping an estimated 157,000 cats and kittens a year through our national network which includes around 210 volunteer-run branches and 34 centres.

Their mission is simple but powerful: to ensure every cat is given the care, compassion, and second chance they deserve. From rescuing abandoned and stray cats to rehoming those in need of a fresh start, Cats Protection works tirelessly to give every feline the life they deserve.

The charity also provides essential medical care, rehabilitation, and support, with a strong focus on neutering and education to prevent future suffering. They work to promote responsible cat ownership and raise awareness of feline welfare in communities across the UK.

Cats Protection’s adoption centres and dedicated team of volunteers go above and beyond every day - caring for cats, building their confidence, and preparing them for loving new homes. Their charity shops and fundraising efforts also help ensure this vital work can continue.

Beyond hands-on care, Cats Protection is a powerful advocate for change, campaigning for better legal protections for cats and helping vulnerable people access support, advice, and neutering services.

Whether you're thinking about adopting, donating, volunteering, or simply learning more about cat welfare, Cats Protection is a trusted, inspiring place to start.

South London Cats Looking for Love

Looking to adopt a feline friend? Below are just a few of the wonderful cats currently looking for loving homes through the Cats Protection South London Adoption Centre. Each one has their own unique personality and story - could one of them be the purrfect match for you?

  • Lady Marmalade

Lady Marmalade is an absolute superstar, with a personality as vibrant as her beautiful coat. She puts on quite a show with her toys but also has plenty of love to give - on her terms. She is an independent lady.

Lady Marmalade prefers a calm, adult-only home and does not like to share her humans with other pets. Though she appears confident, she is still finding her feet, so new owners will need patience to let her settle at her own pace. When ready to explore, a garden would be much appreciated.

Lady Marmalade is cared for by Cats Protection and is waiting for someone fabulous to be her soul sister or brother. Please contact Cats Protection to find out more.

  • Doris

Doris is currently being looked after by Cats Protection - and this chunky but funky lady is ready to find her perfect match.

She’s a friendly girl with a big purr and an even bigger personality, though fuss is strictly on her terms! Doris loves a good brush and has a playful streak too - her signature move is rolling around like a pumpkin and chasing her tail.

She’s been loved a little too much in the feeding department, so her new humans will need to help her on a gentle weight loss journey. With patience and care, it’ll be incredibly rewarding to help her feel her best again.

Doris would suit an adult-only home with experienced cat owners, no other pets, and access to a garden when she’s ready to explore.

  • Mars

Mars is a sweet delight currently in the care of Cats Protection and ready to find a calm and loving home.

She can be a little shy at first, but once she feels safe and settled, she absolutely adores ear scratches - and her purr is impressively loud for such a gentle girl! Her new humans will need to be patient and let her come out of her shell in her own time, but it’s well worth the wait.

Mars found her previous busy home a bit too much, so she’s now hoping for a peaceful, adult-only environment with no children or other pets. A garden to explore once she’s settled would be ideal. If you’re after a little Mars to help you work, rest and play, she might just be the one for you.

  • Viola Sanderson

Viola-Sanderson is being rehomed with the help of Cats Protection and is currently thriving in foster care.

This young mini pantheress is a beautiful girl with glossy black fur and striking amber eyes. She’s looking for a quiet home with patient adopters who can give her the time and space to build her confidence - and truly shine.

    Her fosterer says:
“She’s now spending more time in the living room and has even stretched out on our bed! She often lies nearby, rolls over, flashes her tummy, and loves a game of peekaboo. She’s also becoming more playful and curious about the world outside.”

Viola would love access to a safe garden for her future jungle adventures. If you can offer her a calm, loving home, she just might become your perfect little house panther

  • Terry

Terry acts all coy and loves his hidey spaces, but he’s also a big fan of meaty sticks and a good head and ear scratch. He came into the care of Cats Protection as a stray - a dirty, stinky tom who had tried (unsuccessfully) to become Top Cat in a home with other felines!

Thankfully, he arrived before too many battle wounds could mark his handsome face, and now he’s a cleaner (and far less stinky) chunk of feline charm. Terry will need to be the only cat in the house and is best suited to experienced, patient owners who can give him the time he needs to settle in and build trust.

He’ll also need direct, unrestricted access to a garden once he’s feeling

  • Marbles

Magnificent Marbles is a chilled-out girl with a magical coat full of colours. She’s affectionate, playful, and loves a good chat. Marbles came to Cats Protection as a heavily pregnant stray and was an amazing mum to her litter (who’ve all been adopted). Now it’s her turn to enjoy some love and well-deserved pampering in a home of her own. With her gentle nature, she should be fine living with older, sensible children.

  • H2H - Ally

Adorable Ally is part of Cats Protection’s Home-to-Home scheme and is not based at the centre for viewings. For more information about adopting Ally, please get in touch with Cats Protection South London directly.

According to Cats Protection, her owner says:
“Beautiful 12-year-old Ally is a cheeky, entertaining and independent cat who enjoys spending time outside and has become more affectionate with age. She loves curling up on a lap and will absolutely deafen you with her purring! Toys don’t interest her much, but she loves being involved in whatever’s going on — whether that’s computer work, watching telly or cooking dinner. She needs a home with a garden, no other pets, and no children under

  • Skye

Super Smiley Skye is currently in the care of Cats Protection and is ready to find a home where she can truly shine.

She came from a multi-cat household and was understandably a bit anxious at first - but it didn’t take long for her personality to start shining through. Now, she delights in rolling around and doing her signature little belly wiggle to charm the humans around her!

Skye may not be a lap cat and prefers not to be handled too much, but she does enjoy attention on her own terms. While she’s lived with other cats before, she’d love to be the centre of attention in a home with no other pets or young children. She’s already blossomed in her time with Cats Protection, and with a little patience, she’s sure to become someone’s perfect feline companion.

How I am helping Cats Protection

I’m proud to volunteer with Cats Protection, supporting both my local charity shop and the South London Adoption Centre.

As a volunteer at my local Cats Protection charity shop, I contribute to the organisation’s mission by assisting with the day-to-day running of the store. My responsibilities include:

  • Customer Service – Greeting and assisting customers, answering questions, helping them find items, operating the cash register, and handling payments.

  • Stock Sorting & Display – Sorting through donated items (clothes, books, toys, household goods, etc.) to ensure they are in good condition. Pricing and labelling items, organising stock on the shop floor, and maintaining a tidy and appealing shop layout.

  • Donation Handling – Receiving donations from the public, thanking donors, and explaining the donation process. Sorting and checking donations to ensure quality and suitability for sale.

As a Cat Care Volunteer at the South London Cats Protection Adoption Centre, I support the welfare of cats in care by assisting with their daily needs and helping to maintain a clean, comfortable, and enriching environment. My responsibilities include:

  • Feeding & Hydration – Preparing food and fresh water for the cats in line with individual dietary needs, and ensuring feeding stations are clean and hygienic.

  • Cleaning & Hygiene – Cleaning cat pens and communal areas to high welfare standards, including litter trays, bedding, and surfaces. Disinfecting and replenishing supplies to help prevent the spread of illness.

  • Socialisation & Enrichment – Spending time with cats to help them feel calm and confident. This includes gentle interaction, playtime, and observing behaviour to report any concerns to staff.

  • General Support – Restocking cleaning materials, reporting maintenance issues, and assisting staff with other day-to-day tasks as needed to ensure the smooth running of the centre.

You can also make a meaningful difference by donating to my dedicated Cats Protection fundraiser. Every contribution helps provide vital care, shelter, and second chances for cats in need across the UK. Together, we can create a kinder world for every cat - one donation at a time.

The Hidden Cost of Cute: Understanding Extreme Traits in Cats

Some cat breeds may look cute or quirky on social media, but many are silently suffering behind those “adorable” features. Cats bred with extreme traits - such as flat faces, folded ears, or no fur - often face lifelong health problems as a result of prioritising appearance over wellbeing.

Cats Protection is working hard to raise awareness about these issues and end the breeding of cats with extreme physical characteristics that compromise their health. From painful joint problems in Scottish Folds to breathing difficulties in flat-faced Persians, these traits can drastically reduce a cat’s quality of life.

Whether you're considering adopting a cat or just want to help, taking time to understand the impact of extreme traits is a powerful step in supporting feline welfare.
